ActiGuard
ActiGuard
is primarily an aphron stabilizer that synergistically
works with Blue
Streak. ActiGuard
is comprised of a non-toxic blend of surfactants
and low-toxicity vegetable oils which will also
chemically bond to clays providing inhibition against
water absorption and swelling. When mixed with fresh
water, salt water or drilling mud, it transforms
into a uniform particle size micro-emulsion. This
micro-emulsion produces a high surface area, reactive
liquid that has an affinity for larger clay particles.
The effect is minimal on small particles such as
finely ground bentonite. It bonds to the clay matrix
of shales to control swelling and sloughing.

Applications
While
ActiGuard is primarily employed
within the Aphron
fluid technologies as an aphron stabilizer
when employed as a waterbase additive its use results
in good hole conditions, increased rates of penetration,
and eliminates problems due to clay swelling. ActiGuard
has been used in many wells in areas of red beds,
clays and sensitive shales where operators have
experienced severe problems. ActiGuard
is used at concentrations of 0.1% to 0.5% by volume
in most applications for optimum performance.
ActiGuard
is compatible with most water base fluid systems.
It has little or no detrimental effects on mud properties.
Days on hole are reduced and significant reductions
in overall costs are generally realized. ActiGuard
has also been used with excellent results in high
angle and horizontal applications.

is marketed in five gallon plastic pails as a viscous
concentrated liquid that is environmentally safe.
It is a low-toxicity vegetable oil base with a high
flash point.
No
